Position: Trustee

Type: Volunteer/Part-time approximately 2-6 hours a month

About Us:

Cheltenham Housing Aid Centre is a dedicated housing charity committed to providing essential services and support to those in need. We aim to improve housing conditions and ensure everyone can access safe, affordable housing. We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated individual to join our team.

Role Overview:

As a Trustee you will play an important role in guiding the strategic direction of the Charity ensuring we achieve our mission and objectives.

Who we are looking for

  • We are looking for people who are passionate about housing and homelessness
  • We welcome applications from anyone with interest and relevant skills in any aspect of our work.  At this moment we are particularly interested in hearing from people with skills/experience in:
    • Fundraising, particularly community and corporate fundraising
    • HR
    • Charity operations management
    • Working with, and providing an excellent service for, vulnerable people of all backgrounds

Why you should join us

We are a small charity, but one with a big impact in Cheltenham.

Indeed, we help dozens of people from Cheltenham every month with advice, guidance and support to improve their housing circumstances. Our work matters and is part of making sure Cheltenham has a place for all the people who live here.

Being a part of that mission as a trustee is, for the right candidate, a rewarding, engaging and interesting task. By bringing and applying your knowledge and interest, you can help advise inform and deliver strategy, help manage finances and provide leadership and direction to other trustees and staff. This means you can apply and develop your skills and experiences from other parts of your professional and personal lives, and potentially learn something new about the place you live whilst doing so.

In so doing, you can (without using too much of your time each month!) ensure that a charity that has been around and helping people since 1988 can continue to do so long into the future.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Leadership: Assist with strategic delivery, setting the direction for the charity’s growth and impact.

• Financial Management: Oversee and manage the finances of the charity, ensuring financial stability and accountability.

• Policy and Procedure Review: Assist with the review of policies, procedures, risk management, audit, and other delivery aspects to ensure robust operational practices.

• Compliance: Ensure that CHAC is compliant in all areas of delivery, adhering to relevant laws and regulations.

• Team Management: Assist with the management of the team where required, providing guidance and support to staff and volunteers.

• Advocacy and Promotion: Be proactive in promoting and championing the work and delivery of CHAC services, enhancing the charity’s visibility and influence.

• Trustee Recruitment: Recruit and work with other Trustees to build a strong and effective Board.

• Collaboration: Work closely with Trustees and colleagues to continuously improve service delivery and achieve the charity’s objectives.

• Trustee Support and Training: Ensure Trustees are trained and competent in their roles, providing ongoing support to facilitate their effective contribution to the charity’s mission.

Application Process:

Interested candidates are invited to contact us by email at advice@chac.org.uk. If you would like to chat with the current chair, another trustee or staff then we would welcome this – please drop the team an email and we can sort this out.
